Digital Devices Deprive Brain of Needed Downtime
My agency has a fantastic newsletter they send out filled with all kinds of amazing tidbits; I always find something interesting when I have the time to read it. This article is from the NY Times and speaks to how we can’t stand to be bored, so we fill our lives with digital distractions ultimately robbing us of our ability to properly process information. I read a similar article a fews month’s back in The Atlantic. Over the past 2 months I’ve taken a small step to personally combat this problem, I walk home. I don’t use the phone, I don’t put in my headphones, I don’t even check my blackberry. I soak up the streets of NYC (actually I listen in to some pretty hilarious cell phone conversations from my fellow commuters on foot…people, you’re not in a bubble!). I’ve found this 30 min walk really does help me to unwind from the day.
