Sent the novel
Thanks to Trend Central I have become hooked on this website that allows users to subscribe to a digital novel told via emails (I do have to refute their claim that it’s the “World’s First Novel Told Through Emails”…ummmm all us ad people read “e” back in the day, a fantastic story about an agency told entire through emails). Regardless I read about 30 min worth of “Sent” tonight.
The writing is pretty good, my favorite bit I read so far:
Life is messy. I never saw you smile the way you smiled when you were talking about Dave, and I know you a long, long time. That kind of joy doesn’t come along frequently. For some people, it never comes. You throw back a gift like that, well, you act at your peril. Yes, he lost his cool. He’s emotional. That’s who he is. He fell for you in one night. Does emotion make him immature? What are we saying, then, that maturity is the dulling of our feelings and the retarding of our decision-making processes? You can keep it, then, thanks. No, the only people who think that blind anger and love at first sight and despondency and ecstasy and such are the signposts of immaturity are people who can’t feel those things. Or can’t feel them anymore. So they make judgments and throw in with the common wisdom, which is much more common than wise. Don’t become one of those people. All your life you have put on love like a party dress, and then taken it off when you got home. All your life you have been a pragmatic unromantic, entertained by your heart but ruled by your head, free to enjoy the trappings of love but not the thing itself. Now, though, you have had a momentary bout of exquisiteness. You’d be a fool to recover.
